New Ross, Wexford

New Ross is located on the banks of the river Barrow, 34km west of Wexford town. There are now more things to do in New Ross than ever before as it has become more tourist orientated. If you are interested in tracing your family roots in the Wexford region then contact the John F Kennedy Trust who are located in the Tourist Office on Quay Street. Saint Mary's Church a Gothic building which is located in Church Lane is recommended a visit, the church dates 13th century but time has taken its toll and all that now remains is a ruin. Contained inside the ruin is a great collection of early medieval tombstones. The river Barrow provides the visitor with unlimited activities such as angling and boat cruising. Also there are enjoyable walks along the Barrow.

Things To Do in New Ross

Board the Dunbrody Famine Ship and step back in time. An accurate, full size, ocean-going recreation of the actual timber-built ship, which played a leading part in the 19th century emigration to the USA. Actors bring history to life by re-enacting the conditions endured on board during the turbulent famine period.

From New Ross North Quay, cruise and dine on board the Galley Cruising Restaurants while discovering the picturesque Barrow and Nore River.

Drive slowly pass the town of New Ross as if heading towards Wexford (N25), take the R734 on your right and begin exploring New Ross' surrounding area where you will discover an array of attractions & activities:

Coarse angling is plentiful in Oaklands Lake, for those who enjoy fishing.

Visit the Kennedy Homestead, birthplace of the great grand father of President John. F. Kennedy, which celebrates the story of five generations of the Kennedy dynasty. Stroll through the John F. Kennedy Arboretum which also celebrates the connection US President Kennedy has with New Ross.

In Johnstown, within the extensive ornamental grounds of Johnstown Castle Estate, the Irish Agricultural Museum brings together many aspects of Irish rural life.

In Campile, the Dunbrody Abbey Visitor Centre is a must for visitors to the area.  Various activities have become an integral part of the Dunbrody Abbey Visitor Centre; The Dunbrody Abbey Cookery Centre, tea Rooms, traditional Irish music evenings, and a very successful weekly food market.
